Earring Show – JewellerAJGreen

Earring Show

Well, these are strange times! At first, I found the quarantining quite restful and I welcomed the downtime. Now I am starting to worry a little about the aftereffect of all this going forward. But it is what it is and we do what we have to do. This is a global thing and we are so fortunate to be here in Canada. I hope you are all doing well and you have been keeping safe and that this is not affecting you too hard. It's time to think about new ways of working in this new reality. As a small business, I am finding this a little overwhelming, but I will keep working at and I will figure it out!

On a happier note, just before this craziness happened I had applied to be part of an exhibition with the Craft Council of BC that they usually hold at a gallery in Vancouver. The show is called the Earring Show and is held annually to raise money for the gallery as this is a not-for-profit organisation. The gallery has been hit hard commercially with COVID-19 as spring and summer are their busiest time of the year. The show is usually held at a gallery on Granville Island, but with these crazy times, they are going to hold it online.

Here is a small video of the earrings I submitted. They are one of a kind and the name of the work is ‘Willow the-wisp.’
I lost my Gran last year and I have been thinking about her a lot. Granny Green had a lot of bric-a-brac all over the house. Part of this collection was some plates she had hanging on the wall that had the flower fairy paintings printed on to them; the ones that we are all familiar with by the artist Cicely Mary Barker. As a child, I would spend many hours looking at them, being mesmerized by them.

When I came to Canada and discovered the amazing forest with its moss, lush green vegetation and wildflower, I really had a feeling that this is where these mystical beings would live. I took this as my inspiration and wanted to create a pair of earrings a fairy would wear and wanted to base them on the nature that is around, but not making a true representation of them, more of a contemporary take. I am offering these for sale and  100%  of the sale will be given to the Craft Council.
